See I have called by name Bezalel…and I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with ability and intelligence, with knowledge and craftsmanship, to devise artistic designs, to work in gold, silver, and bronze, in cutting stones for setting, and in carving wood, to work in every craft. (Exodus 31:2-5)

We took a drive up the “Ruta de Las Flores” (Route of the Flowers) to order a new table for the dinning room. This time of year, after the rains stop, the flowers begin to bloom and demonstrate why this route is called by this name. We have found a region where they bring wood down from the mountains and make beautiful hand crafted furniture and other interesting items near Nahuizalco. It is a beautiful region!
On our way back we were intrigued by these large animals made out of sticks, and wood shavings. We pulled off the road and inside found the home and workshop of a very unique craftsman. In addition to the craft items, they also happened to have rabbits, chickens and a pet squirrel. We left that day with a new chick, a golden miniature hen who the boys decided to name “Nugget” a couple of hand made hanging lamp shades and a small deer for our porch…I think he charged us $8…
Before we left, I asked to pray for his business and home, then I remembered the passage above and shared it with him. He began to smile and tell me how he knew that passage very well…he has been working in this area for over 30 years and gives the Lord credit for every one of the ideas for new creations he has made. In the years and seasons of a lot of tourism, he said there can be 10 or more cars parked along the road to visit his shop.
Below are a few pictures of the craftsmanship in Nauhuizalco, Sonsonate. Make sure to visit this shop next time you find your way into coffee country in El Salvador, on the Ruta de Las Flores.
